Synopsis

Under the Olive Tree is an original project that began with a photo of an olive tree next to the Parthenon in Greece and a shared love of Mediterranean culture and music. For thousands of years, the olive tree has been and still is of crucial importance to the regions and peoples of the Mediterranean basin, and its branches are a universal symbol of peace. The olive tree is taken as the inspiration for an extraordinary encounter between musicians from different backgrounds, and as the starting point for our journey.

Under The Olive Tree celebrates the gift of life, love, joy and sadness, as well as tolerance, cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence. With original compositions and traditional pieces, a dynamic dialogue is established between the musicians. Music brings us together, and under the olive tree we hope to rediscover our roots and our ties.

The project premiered in Geneva on the and 23rd of September at the VIII edition of the Fête de L’Olivier 2023. The project premiered in the Patio de los Naranjos of the Mezquita - Catedral in Cordoba, Spain, in the frame of the International Flower Festival Flora and in commemoration of the 40th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Synopsis

A Bridge on the Blue Sea - The Mediterranean, with its bright light, bright colours and bewitching scents, has never ceased to captivate hearts and minds through the ages. Cradle of ancient civilisations and crossroads of many cultures, this basin of incessant exchanges has seen ships bringing wealth, knowledge and sometimes conflicts. Despite the trials, the Mediterranean peoples have been able to preserve and sublimate their heritage through music, dance and poetry.

Following the success of last year's production “À l'ombre de l'olivier” (In the shade of the olive tree), we offer you a new musical adventure featuring astonishing artists from Greece, Morocco and Lebanon, and with the special collaboration with the grande dame of Arab and Aramaic music, Ghada Shbeir. Fluctuating between fascinating rhythms, enchanting melodies and magical voices, the singers and musicians cross the bridges that separate their countries, bringing the warmth and passion of the Mediterranean to the heart of Europe.
