Alkis Zopoglou
Alkis Zopoglou is a qanun player with an international career and the founder of “medigrecian productions” a creative & independent artist booking agency specialising in Mediterranean music with strong elements from the Greek traditional music.
He actively began his pursuit of music from a very early age. Very soon, he discovered the qanun which led him to study the styles of performance of various important qanun players in Istanbul. He is also licensed in Byzantine music, and has been employed as a professor at the Music School in Drama – Greece, teaching his instrument.
Since then, he has had an intense artistic career, taking part in several cultural events, festivals recording with various music labels, where he collaborated with a significant number of prominent composers and music bands of Greece and beyond. He also coopereates with many foreign musicians and has travelled for concerts in several countries, including France, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Morocco, Spain... He has represented Greece as a musician and has taught qanun in international meetings in several countries.
He is a founding member of the musical ensemble “Kontrabando”. He is also artistic director of Mediterranean Music Festival in Zurich-Switzerland (mmfestival.org) and Cosmopolis festival in his hometown Kavala-Greece (cosmopolisfestival.gr).
